A childcare worker is accused of sexually abusing two young girls, one of them at the south-eastern suburbs centre where he was employed.

The 23-year-old man was charged on Christmas Eve with four counts of indecent dealing of a child under-13 after one of the girls complained about his alleged behaviour and her parents called police.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was refused bail when he appeared in court last week, with the police prosecutor telling the court the youngest girl was aged just three.

A parent whose child also went to the centre claimed the owner had ignored previous complaints by other children about the worker hurting them, telling their parents that young children often made things up.

Those parents have now contacted police. Investigations by the child abuse squad and the Department of Child Protection and Family Services are ongoing and they are working with families and the centre.

The centre owner refused to comment today.

The Perth Magistrate’s Court was told the most recent alleged incident was at the childcare centre on December 18, while the first allegations dated back to July.

The man is expected to appear in court again by video-link in February.
