Childcare workers merit recognition, respect – Jainab

KOTA KINABALU: Childcare workers deserve recognition and respect commensurate to their invaluable service for the betterment of society.

“Childcare workers play a vital role to a child’s development in providing care and early education for children to help them build a strong foundation in preparation for primary and secondary schools” she added.

“It’s not easy being a childcare worker but those who take up the role are special individuals that deserve to be valued for their sacrifices and dedication in providing quality early childhood education and development for the younger generation,”said Consumer Affairs and Community Development Minister, Datuk Jainab Ayid yesterday at the State-level Childcare Workers Day 2014 at Sutera Harbour.

Jainab also stressed the importance for parents to build strong rapport with childcare workers and work together at different stages to play a more proactive role in supporting the development of their children.

“Parents in this context should work together with collectively childcare workers in providing care, motivation and education for their children that promote intellectual and social development as well as helping them explore individual interests, develop talents, independence and build a stronger self-esteem,” she told reporters after officiating the event on Sunday.

Themed “Movie characters and Cartoons,” the High Tea ceremony held in conjunction with the State-level Childcare Workers Day 2013 gathered childcare workers, teachers and TASKA members adorned in colourful costumes of cartoon characters much to the delight of children at the event.

“It is hoped that childcare workers continue maintaining the highest standards of services in providing childcare and education for children,” Jainab said after conferring award certificates to 15 childcare workers for their outstanding longstanding efforts.

During her speech, Jainab lauded the Sabah Association of Childcare Services (TASKA) for stepping forward to improve the professionalism of childcare workers in the state through education, training workshops and seminars to ensure nursery staff deliver the highest standards of childcare services.

In addition, Jainab also highlighted the government’s commitment to enhance the delivery of childcare services throughout Sabah.

“Sabah currently has a total of 191 TASKA childcare centers which would be able to cater for 4,060 children and 2,479 childcare workers until 2013,”she said, adding that the government would focus on enhancing the quality of childcare services and training for TASKA childcare workers in the state.
