Mandatory course for childcare providers

KUCHING: A new basic childcare course called Kursus Asuhan Permata (KAP) is a mandatory requirement for childcare providers (CCP) working in childcare centres in the country.

This new course which replaces the Kursus Asas Asuhan Kanak-kanak — also known as KAAK — was launched recently by Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Malaysia (JKM) under Regulation 55 (2) the Child Care regulation 2012, Act 1984.

LH Educational Resources, a JKM-accredited training centre, will be conducting its first KAP from Jan 16 to March 15 this year.

To cater for working CCP’s, lectures are scheduled for only three days a week — on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The Malaysian government, through JKM, is subsidising 50 per cent of the cost for the course and students need only pay RM500 for the whole course, including materials and refreshments.

All CCP’s who do not have the basic qualification are strongly advised to take advantage of the present government subsidy and enrol for the course in order to comply with the JKM regulations on professional childcare and early education.

Holders of the old KAAK certificate can upgrade their qualifications by attending the newly-designed KAP.
