Research and Markets: United Kingdom Childcare Market Report 2015

Research and Markets ( has announced the addition of the “Childcare Market Report 2015″ report to their offering.

This market report examines the childcare market in the UK, including private-sector provision, local authority/voluntary provision, individual care, and provision for school-age children. In recent years, the affordability and availability of childcare within the UK has begun to reach a crisis point, with childcare costs increasing rapidly by 27% since 2009 and the average family now estimated to spend around a third of their household budgets on childcare provision. As a result, the Government has introduced a raft of new policies to ease the burden of such costs on families and encourage more parents back into work, such as the creation of more childcare places, the extension of free weekly childcare and the extension of school hours from 8am to 6pm in order to improve the availability of out-of-hours wrap-around care for both nursery- and school-age children.

Over the next few years, it is predicted that growth will strengthen within the childcare market, which is forecast to rise by 16.9% overall between 2015 and 2019. Continued growth in the population of 0 to 8 year-olds – albeit at a slower rate than has been observed over the past 5 years – will serve to buoy demand for childcare services, as will the continued rise in the number of working parents, with the strengthening economy likely to improve conditions across the labour market going forwards. Nonetheless, issues surrounding the lack of affordable childcare are likely to continue to hit headlines, while public policy pertaining to such issues is liable to change, particularly during the run-up to the 2015 General Election which is due to be held in May next year, with all three main political parties positioning childcare policy at the centre of their new election manifestos.
